Director’s Statement
Why tell
this story?
A Calm Cool Face is a short dramatic film exploring brotherhood, concealed depression, and the devastating hindsight that follows suicide loss. Set over a nostalgic beach trip between two brothers, the film examines how emotional suffering can remain hidden behind humor, affection, and ordinary moments.
Designed as both a cinematic work and conversation catalyst, the project aims to support dialogue around mental health awareness, emotional isolation, and recognizing overlooked warning signs — particularly among young Black men.
